Package Overview

A relaxed day for finding the things you'll want to take home. Your driver takes you to the Maasai Market for carvings, beadwork and fabrics, to a tanzanite museum to learn about the gem found only near Kilimanjaro, and to small design shops selling handmade homeware. You have lunch on the terrace at Arusha Coffee Lodge, visit Shanga, a workshop that employs people with disabilities to make glass and jewellery from recycled materials, and finish at the Cultural Heritage Centre. We don't take commission from any of the shops.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 • Markets, makers and lunch

Arusha

Pickup at 9am. Morning at the Maasai Market and the tanzanite museum, then local design shops before lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge and a visit to Shanga next door. The afternoon finishes at the Cultural Heritage Centre, and you're back at your hotel by 4:30pm.

Note: Some shops close on Sundays. Bring cash in small notes for the market.
